WASHINGTON – With the 2010 election year barely under way, two senators and one governor — all Democrats — ditched plans to run for re-election in the latest signs of trouble for President Barack Obama's party.

I was born in the mid fifties and while every person has a tendency to idealize the the era they grew up in I do believe that babyboomers grew up in a more civil and wholesome environment. That is not to say that it was perfect or that there were not serious social and political issues--- of course there were, Civil Rights, Bay of Pigs, the Cold War and of course Viet Nam but people in general were "different".
Define "different"... that has been what I have asked myself for quite awhile now. It is not an easy thing to put your finger on but I have been thinking about it for quite a while now. I found this astonishing---Direction of Country Personally, I have felt for a long time that our country is not headed in a good direction--- what was surprising to me is how many of my fellow Americans feel the same way. This obviously crosses political lines because one cannot achieve the numbers observed without that being the case.
As of last month nearly 2/3's of Americans said they felt the country was in a state of decline--- 61%---- to me that was incredible. While there were similarly low scores in the previous administration it is surprising to me to see it so soon into the presidency of a man who won based upon "hope and change" and "yes we can!" slogans... it's seems the only change has been towards a more pessimistic outlook. Most of the poll results were in the 60-70% range for dissatisfaction--- barely one year into Obama's reign--- obviously people are not feeling so "hopey-changey" anymore.
For those of us who have lived long enough to be well acquainted with Chicago style politics and the corruption of Illinois government there are no surprises with regard to the cronyism and buying of votes--- it is part and parcel of the political milieu that Obama grew out of politically. What has destroyed Chicago and Illinois economically is now in Washington. Astute Illinoisans are not surprised but I believe the rest of the country is starting to wake up and realize Obama is not the man his finely crafted image portrayed him as during the campaign before the election... of course this was not helped by the "lamestream" media that refused to cover anything negative or anything that had the potential to reflect negatively on Obama---- like the church he attended and his close relationship with its pastor Rev Jeremiah Wright as well as his ties to William Ayers and his mother's involvemnt in radical anti-goverment groups during the 60's and 70's. Obama's mother dispised this country. At this point it doesn't matter if Obama was born in this country because even so he was raised by a mother that hated this country and government--- this is further validated by the church and people he was/is affiliated with. Michelle Obama's comment after her husband's election--- that for the first time in her life she was proud of our country--- was very telling--- and she was sincere--- it was not "misunderstood" as the media fluffed it over. While ignored during the campaign people are starting to see the arrogance and disregard toward those who voted them in. The healthcare issue is a prime example. The majority of people DO NOT want socialized medical care--- they do not want a one payer system but Obama and his administration are hell bent on ramming one down the throats of the American people even though they don't have the time to actually thoughtfully construct, discuss or even READ the bill before them--- this has terrified lots of people and made them wary of what is going on behind the closed doors of the senate and the house.
Also having portrayed himself as a man of faith he has lied to and mislead people of faith including the Pope with regard to his beliefs--- the fact that they do not attend services regularly and it has not been important to them to find a church home--- after a year in Washington--- also demonstrates the tendency to tell people what he believes they want to hear and then completely betrays his words by his actions. Some would say "so what! does the president have to go to church?" Though most Americans would feel better if the president did--- it is not essential BUT the concern is with the untruthfulness--- Don't claim one thing to get your foot in the door and then act in a way that is totally foreign to your own words.
So--- why are people different today? I think it is because we forgot what made us great--- we got rich, lazy and cocky--- we assumed we were responsible for our own success and greatness. This country is unique in the world for many reasons but one stands out--- this country was founded by people who believed in God and were escaping the tyranny of those who wanted to keep them from practicing what they believed... In our wealth induced stupor we have been like the poor frogs who get boiled to death because they don't realize the water around them is getting hotter. Secular humanism is the water getting hotter in our pot---- we have been complacent as the foundation (Dare I say God) has been slowly torn out from under us and now we are reaping the fruits of that forgetfulness. Fortunately... this remains a faith filled nation--- most Americans believe in God and that it is God who brought us the greatness we attained in previous generations--- fortunately we are different than frogs--- the sleeping giant is waking and realizing the water is way to hot to tolerate anymore--- we are remembering the Founding Fathers and many, many, many feel they are being pushed too far by a government that has become all too elitist, powerful, and self serving. That original American Spirit is awakening--- The Tea Parties, the Manhattan Declaration, widespread dissatisfaction with government--- Some politicians are starting to see the writing on the wall--- Don't Tread on me!
