When I decided to give chickens a try it was more or less just a desire to have an interesting hobby for retirement--- one that could possibly bring in a little cash. As I learned about chicken farming I learned more about food production and with that the wide scale tampering with genetics in everything from corn to cows, the fake foods that have come to be---like cheese in a can and avocado free guacamole. When one really starts investigating it becomes alarming--- most of us have no idea what we are eating! This website has tons of information and for those in my home state I included a link to their Illinois page. Lists farmers doing things the right way--- not only healthier for you but it helps the small family farmers who cannot compete with corporate farms. Despite what they say the genetic modifications to our food have one purpose--- to make more money for big agri-businesses like Monsanto and the others. Eat Wild and Illinois Eat Wild
We made the switch for 2010--- no more Jewel and Dominicks we are buying our beef and produce through CSA's. This is the one I chose.:
PS--- BTW the bison at the top are neighbors of mine--- they live a little ways up the road.
